Pony Up!

Summer vacation is over and fall is on our doorstep - so what’s in store for your hair? While personal style is, well, personal – it’s always nice to see what trends are being fore-cast for our follicles. This fall I’m kind of obsessed with pony tales, as are a lot of other people, bet these are pony tales of a different color! One simple rule: Whatever you do, make it look messy.

“Pin-Up” Pony:  The pony tale is a staple of everyday life, whether you like it or not, but a twist on this old stand by is to create a lose pony and secure the base under itself with a couple of bobby pins. This puts a whole new twist on an old silhouette.

The Pony Deconstructed: Can it even be considered a pony tail? Tie the pony low, and loop the end – this look can even be easily rolled and secured for an effortless look.

A Braided Tail: Think about spicing up your pony tail by braiding it… but don’t take the easy route. Skip the classic braid for a fish tail or knotted braid.

Other ideas for your pony include dressing it up with a little bling. A gold ring clasp, for example, dresses the pony up a bit. As much as I hate to even bring it up, you might even tuck a couple loose feathers in there for a more bohemian vibe. Even better yet, pair your pony with a hair band or head rap!

Stylist Tips

osherov-8994-2 copy

Here are some style tips from Phil, one of our master stylists:

1) Hair is elastic when wet. To avoid damage, dry by tossling with your fingers until most moisture has been removed, then move in with styling brushes.

2) Take the time to section hair off with plenty of clips to keep work quick — and though it may not seem so — simple.

3) Style scalp direction first when the skin is most pliable. Then focus on the midshaft and the ends will follow suit easily.

4) If you’re growing your hair, protect those ends!
